Dental Implant Surgery

Dental implant surgery may be performed at our Windsor, CA, office can require one or more office visits depending upon the type of implant you receive and the state of your jaw. Traditional implants require at least two surgeries, while other types can often be placed and restored in a single visit. If a patient has waited to address missing teeth and experienced some jaw atrophy (shrinkage), he or she may require a bone graft before receiving implants. Or, if gum disease or tooth decay are present, these must be resolved before moving ahead with surgery. You can depend on Dr. Patrick Seely and his team to recommend the best course of treatment for your needs.

Surgery involves placing the implant into the jawbone to replace a lost tooth root.

Traditional Implants

Prior to any implant surgery, our dentists use digital imaging technology to assess jaw bone density and determine the best positions for the implants. Traditional dental implants require uncompromised bone density for support. The images of your jaw can reveal any need for bone grafting, which can be completed by our collaborating oral surgeon several months prior to implants surgery.

The oral surgeon placing the implants and prosthodontist Patrick Seely work together at Windsor Dental Group to provide patients with a prompt and effective solution to their oral health needs.

Traditional dental implants are embedded in the jawbone within the socket of a missing tooth. Once in place, the gums are sutured closed to facilitate the fusion of the implant to the jaw, a process that typically takes about three to six months. Once we confirms that this process is complete, a second surgery takes place. The gums are incised to expose the implant, and an abutment is attached. The gums are once again sutured closed in a way that leaves the abutment piece exposed above the gumline. Once the gums have healed, your dentist will take impressions of the abutment and any surrounding teeth to guide fabrication of your restorations.

Same-day Implants

The surgical timeline for mini implants and “all-on-4 or 6” implants can be completed in a single surgery, followed by immediate restoration. The all-on-4 or 6 method places four or six implants per dental arch. These posts are longer than traditional implants, and are implanted at an angle to make the most of existing jaw bone tissue.

Mini implants are smaller, and are inserted through the gum tissue directly into the jaw. Each mini implant has a ball-shaped top that connects directly to the restoration. When necessary, mini implants can be placed immediately following the extraction of a decayed or damaged tooth.
